Four distinct mechanisms are grouped here and they intervene at different points on the same axis. Anastrozole inhibits aromatase, reducing estrogen synthesis. Clomiphene and enclomiphene block estrogen receptors instead — and those two are not interchangeable, since clomiphene is a mixture of two isomers with different receptor character and half-lives while enclomiphene is the isolated trans isomer. hCG and HMG act at gonadotropin receptors, hCG at LHCGR alone and HMG supplying FSH activity as well.
